In general, there must be enough jawbone present to support dental implants. However, in cases where jawbone is insufficient, additional procedures, such as bone grafting, can be performed at Dr. HagShenas’ Los Gatos practice to improve the outcome.
The Procedure to Place Dental Implants
Once it has been determined that you are a good candidate for dental implants, titanium posts will be surgically implanted into your jawbone. In many cases, the surgery to place the implants, as well as any possible bone grafting needed before the dental implants are placed, will be conducted in-house at Los Gatos Restorative and Cosmetic Dentistry by Dr. HagShenas.
Once the dental implants have been placed, small extensions will be attached to the implants so that the artificial replacement teeth can be attached. Over time, the titanium posts will integrate with jaw bone to create a strong foundation for the replacement teeth.
Dr. HagShenas will artistically craft your replacement teeth, bridge, or dentures, which will fit onto your dental implants. A single crown (artificial tooth) is used to replace one tooth, while a bridge (partial denture) can be used to replace several teeth. Dental implants can also be used to secure a full set of dentures.
