Your smile conveys volumes about you; when you feel good about yourself, it shows in your appearance. At Los Gatos Restorative and Cosmetic Dentistry, serving Saratoga, San Jose, and the entire South Bay area, you are offered Zoom!® teeth whitening, porcelain veneers, and other cosmetic procedures to improve your smile and appearance.
One of the safest and quickest cosmetic dentistry procedures offered at the Los Gatos and Saratoga-area practice is teeth whitening. Stains and discolorations resulting from aging or dark foods such as coffee and tea can be reduced with this simple procedure. At Los Gatos Restorative and Cosmetic Dentistry near San Jose, you are offered Zoom!® teeth whitening as well as the convenience of the at-home teeth whitening system.
At Los Gatos Restorative and Cosmetic Dentistry near Saratoga, San Jose, and Campbell, Dr. HagShenas offers a safe and effective teeth whitening system for use at home. He takes an impression of your teeth in order to create a custom-made tray that will fit precisely over your teeth. This tray will hold the teeth whitening gel against your teeth for optimal results. The tray and whitening gel are used for one hour per day, and after about a week, you'll see significant whitening results.
Unlike many teeth whitening systems that are available over the counter today, the at-home teeth whitening system used at Dr. HagShenas’ office has been proven safe for your gums. Because your tray will be custom made to fit your mouth, there is little risk of the whitening material leaking onto your gums and causing tooth and gum irritation, which is common with many over-the-counter teeth whitening systems.
Dr. HagShenas also offers the Zoom!® teeth whitening system at his office. With Zoom!® teeth whitening, teeth will become considerably lighter in a one-hour-long visit. First, your mouth is prepared with a protective cover so that only your teeth are exposed. Next, a hydrogen peroxide–based gel is applied to the teeth, and a whitening light is used to activate the gel and help it penetrate the teeth to break up deep stains. After about an hour, the gel is removed and a fluoride treatment is applied. You will emerge from the Los Gatos and San Jose-area office after your Zoom!® teeth whitening treatment with a brighter, more beautiful smile.
The Zoom!® teeth whitening system has many advantages over the at-home teeth whitening system. Most at-home treatments take a week or more to produce results, while the in-office Zoom!® teeth whitening treatment produces dazzling results in about an hour. Dr. HagShenas’ San Jose-area patients also report that Zoom!® teeth whitening is more comfortable than the previous at-home systems they have tried. And, because the treatment is administered in his office, your safety is ensured.
Improving a person’s smile with porcelain veneers is a popular solution for teeth that are stained, chipped, or misaligned. At the office of Dr. HagShenas near San Jose, he offers ultra-thin porcelain veneers that are custom made to cover the visible part of a tooth, creating a beautifully natural look.
A small amount of enamel may need to be taken off the front of the tooth before a porcelain veneer can be attached. An impression of the prepared tooth is made and sent to the laboratory where your veneer will be custom crafted. Dr. HagShenas directs his master ceramist in the creation of your porcelain veneers to ensure that you achieve the very best smile possible.
It may be necessary for you to wear provisional veneers until your permanent veneers are ready. During a second appointment at the San Jose-area office, Dr HagShenas will remove your provisional veneers to check the fit and color of your new porcelain veneers before bonding them onto your teeth. Once the veneers have been placed on the teeth, a special light is used to harden the bonding material, and the excess material is removed from the teeth. With proper care, your porcelain veneers can last for many years to come.
To correct minor chips, gaps and stains, many of Dr. HagShenas’ San Jose-area patients choose dental bonding as a cost effective alternative to porcelain veneers. A bonding agent is first applied to the tooth, and a composite plastic resin is applied. Dr. HagShenas sculpts this resin into the desired shape, excess resin is trimmed, and the tooth is smoothed and polished. Although dental bonding looks natural and can be completed in one visit, the material is not as strong as your natural tooth, and it is more likely that you might stain or chip your bonding than you would a porcelain veneer or your natural tooth. Dental bonding lasts three to five years, on the average.
Besides the obvious esthetic differences, traditional silver (dental amalgam) fillings cause a host of non-cosmetic issues. Over time, daily pressure and temperature changes can cause silver fillings to crack and leak, allowing bacteria to get into your tooth. The mercury in silver fillings can also leak into the surrounding tissues, causing stains on the teeth and the gums. All of these problems can be prevented with the use of durable tooth-colored fillings. Los Gatos Restorative and Cosmetic Dentistry provides mercury-free dentistry for Saratoga, Campbell, Los Gatos, and San Jose-area patients, as Dr. HagShenas does not advocate the placement of traditional silver fillings. If you already have traditional silver fillings, Dr. HagShenas can safely replace them with tooth-colored restorations.
When a tooth has lost a significant amount of its structure to decay or injury, an inlay or onlay may be used instead of a tooth-colored filling. Porcelain and resin inlays and onlays are custom made to fit your tooth, and are bonded into place to form a stronger structure than is possible with a filling. Because of the nature of his restorative and cosmetic dentistry practice, Dr. HagShenas suggests replacing old metal fillings with tooth colored fillings for a more natural look. Typically, inlays and onlays are needed to replace old metal fillings due to their added strength. Dr. HagShenas can create and place inlays and onlays at his practice in as little as one visit with CEREC® 3D technology.
Dental crowns are used when there is significant damage to a tooth that cannot be repaired with fillings, inlays, or onlays. A crown may be an excellent choice to restore a tooth for both structural and cosmetic reasons. A crown is a hard covering that fits over the entire surface of the tooth, adding strength and improving appearance. In his cosmetic dentistry procedures, Dr. HagShenas uses porcelain or porcelain-bonded-to-precious metal crowns to add strength to damaged teeth.
Through the use of CEREC® 3D, Dr. HagShenas can make and place your crown in just one visit. The tooth is first prepared to make room for the crown. An optical impression of the tooth is made, and the crown is custom crafted from the optical impression, so that it fits precisely over the tooth. The crown is then bonded onto the tooth. Dr. HagShenas’ goal is to make your crowns simply indistinguishable from your natural teeth, creating restorations that mimic the natural function, feel, and appearance of your teeth.
CEREC® 3D technology allows Dr. HagShenas to create and place porcelain restorations in just one visit. Traditionally, this would take two or more visits. CEREC® is a state-of-the-art computer-aided 3-D technology that helps Dr. HagShenas complete your cosmetic dentistry procedure quickly. Dr. HagShenas uses an optical impression of your tooth to design and create a porcelain restoration (inlay, onlay, or crown), and bond it onto your tooth, in just one visit.
